McDonald’s and Lopez Foods Announce Mariachi Festival

Oklahoma City, Okla. – A weekend outdoor festival celebrating Hispanic culture and the genre of Mariachi music will open the Arts Council of Oklahoma City’s Summer Twilight Concert Series on June 3, 2007 at Will Rogers Park. The Oklahoma City Mariachi Festival will showcase Mexican music and dance throughout the day.

The second annual event, presented by McDonald’s and Lopez Foods, was created to introduce the genre of Mariachi music to the Oklahoma City Metro Area. The Latino Community Development Agency and the Junior League of Oklahoma City initiated the event to showcase performing artists in the Hispanic community.

Oklahoma City’s cultural organizations and educational institutions have demonstrated very strong support of this event and have created new cultural awareness programs that will tie into this celebration.

The festival involves musical workshops for children at Oklahoma City Community College on June 1 and a children’s activity center at Will Rogers Park on June 3. All students attending the Mariachi workshops will perform at the festival on Sunday. Other scheduled performances for the Sunday event include: Mariachi Orgullo de America, Norahua Ballet Folklorical, Mariachi Lopez and the Latin Trio.

The festival is free and open to the public.
